CHARLES DAVIS - FLUTE PLAYER

[ indian fairy tales ]

The World of Indian Fairy Tales and Oriental Sounds

Indian fairy tales told by Frau Wolle,  music arranged and played by Ensemble Chanchala.

Charles Davis (Flutes), Andieh’ Merk (Percussion), Buba Davis-Sproll (Tanpura)

Eartrek India ... Fairytales and Music

Wild, wise and spicy fairytales and music from a large land full of sounds and colors. Curry and coriander, lotus blossoms and jasmine, silk and soul searching, fate and fantasy, sunsplash and starshine, gurus and grifters, music and fairytales, who will fly with us?

The fairytales tell of vices and lies, of apes and hat salesmen, of the language of birds and the hunger for stories. Sounds and words entice vivid pictures from within. Dramatic effect is intensified by story and word in harmony.
Reflections resound, connotations and  imaginations are given space
.

Frau Wolle
She has been making her living as a fairytale and story teller since 1995, telling easily and fluently in German and English and Tyrolean dialect; and has worked with translators several times (into sign language, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese).
She has traveled extensively and told so far in 12 countries from Stockholm to Damascus. She appears about 77 times per year at varied events for adults. Her style is distinguished by clear, rich language, strong telling material, fine humor and her love of the stories.
She weaves age old stories into the here and now, or does she lead the listeners into the worlds of “once upon a time” or “for ever more” ?

The Ensemble Chanchala plays a music whose roots can be found in the cultures of the Arabian and Indian world, as wells as in jazz. Charles Davis is one of the most active jazz flutists in Europe, and plays the flute, alto flute, bass flute and the over two metre high double bass flute. Andieh’ Merk plays in this group the tablas  and Hang and is a much demanded percussionist in various jazz and percussion groups. Buba Davis-Sproll plays the tanpura, the Indian instrument that accompanies in the background the soloists.
